Nirbhaya Case: Four convicts hanged to death in Tihar

Four convicts – Mukesh Sing, Vinay Sharma, Akash Thakur and Pawan Gupta- were hanged to death in Tihar Jail on Friday early morning.

Director General of Tihar Jail Sandeep Goel confirmed to reporters outside the prison that all the four convicts were hanged to death at 5.30 am and a doctor has examined and declared all four dead.

Dr. B.N Mishra led 5 member panel of DDU forensic department will do the post mortom at 8am, according the official of Tihar jail.

An official in Tihar jail said, none of the convicts expressed any will or last wish. Their belongings and money that they earned during their stay in jail will be handed over to their respective families.

It was in the December of 2012, the incident happened in a running chartered bus. The victim, 23 years old, and her friend were attacked brutally. Victim was gang raped by five people including a minor. Victim boarded in the bus from Saket after watching movie ‘Life of Pi‘. Friend of the victim was attacked during his protest and trying to stop convicts from attacking the victim. She was later thrown out of the Bus near Mahipalpur flyover. And she died in a hospital in Singapore.

The incident rocked all over India and Delhi became shaken. Thousands of Students marched to Raisina Hills demanding justice for victim. It brought many radical changes in approach in the rape laws.
