The Karnataka government on Wednesday ordered a magisterial enquiry into the violent clashes that broke out in the eastern part of Bengaluru late Tuesday night, over a derogatory social media post uploaded by a Congress legislator’s relative. At least three people and over 50 police personnel were injured. The incident took place between DJ Halli and KG Halli areas after a mob started pelting stones and torching vehicles.

After a high-level meeting with CM Yediyurappa, state Home Minister Bommai said: “Losses caused for damaged property during the incident will be recovered from perpetrators identified by the police.”

Confirming the deaths, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Kamal Pant told media, “We have learned that three people have died during the incident. However, we are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind these deaths.”
